Designers Charles and Ray Eames originally designed this wonderful elephant back in 1945. The patent on this Eames design, as with all their other designs is no longer in place. But if you want the very best version, you need to buy it from Vitra, one of the original furniture manufacturers – the other being Herman Miller – to collaborate with Charles and Ray Eames.
The original Eames elephant was made in plywood, but never made it into production – if you’re a real design obsessive, you can try and track one down at auction. Years on the Eames elephant is now available in plastic – John Lewis stock a selection – and makes a great seat / toy for a child’s bedroom or playroom. Indeed, this elephant looks pretty good anywhere!
The Vitra Eames Elephant also comes in red, pale pink, pale blue and bright green.
